Description

The Syderstone War Memorial Cross is a grey granite memorial located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building. It is prominently placed by the churchyard path, close to the church's round tower. The memorial features a roughly hewn wheel-head cross that is approximately 2.5 meters tall, with a sword of sacrifice carved in relief on the front face. It stands on a low tapering plinth that has a single-stepped base and a cobbled foundation.

The plinth displays inscriptions in applied metal lettering. The main dedication reads: "1914 – 1918. TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR" followed by 12 names and the phrases "MAY THEY REST IN PEACE." and "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."

Additionally, a small rectangular granite tablet is placed on the front step of the base, which reads "1982 FALKLAND ISLANDS" followed by a name. On the riser of the base, there is a dedication for the Second World War that states "1939 - 1945 (NAME) ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO WENT OUT FROM THE PARISH TO SERVE IN THIS WAR RETURNED SAFELY THANKS BE TO GOD."
