Description
The Old Granary is a maltings building, now a private house, dating from the mid-18th century with additions made in 1910 and alterations in 1982. It is constructed of colourwashed brick, clunch, and carstone, topped with a slate roof. The building has two storeys and an attic.
On the front, there are 20th-century loading bay doors set to the left under a segmental arch. To the left is a renewed sash window, while to the right is a casement window with a wrought iron balcony. A flat brick string course runs between the storeys. The first floor features three late 20th-century casements and one sash, all beneath segmental arches. The roof is mansard, and the east gable is supported by buttresses. Below an oculus, there is a late 20th-century attic casement with a gault brick surround.
At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey addition from 1910 that creates a double pile plan, ending in a late 20th-century gabled wall that is the remnant of a truncated cross wing. Inside, much of the original timbering remains, including the remnants of a malting tank in the cellar. The roof features secondary rafters, collars with arched braces at the change in roof angle, and additional collars above, along with clasped purlins.
