Description

The Village Cross, dating from the early 14th century, is located on the village green of Hockwold cum Wilton. It is constructed of ashlar stone set upon an octagonal brick pedestal. The pedestal features an ashlar cornice that supports a plinth. Above this, there is a square socket stone that is chamfered into an octagon, with stop angles at the cardinal points. The shaft of the cross is designed as a tapering column with four rounded lobes, arranged to create the appearance of four deep rolls. Although it is topped with a crowned cap, the cross itself is missing.
