Description
Feltwell War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920. It is located in a semi-circular roadside enclosure, surrounded by walls, near the south-west corner of the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building.
The memorial features a polished, red granite wheel-head cross that rises from a tapering plinth on a square base. This is set atop a three-stepped concrete base, which is on a broad stone-slab platform. The plinth includes incised lettering, painted white, bearing inscriptions and the names of the fallen.
The main inscription is on the south face of the plinth and reads: "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH, WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918." The names of 46 individuals are listed on the other faces of the plinth.
Additionally, beneath the main inscription, on the base of the plinth, is another inscription that states: "WORLD WAR 1939-1945" followed by nine names.
To the north-east of the memorial, there is a red brick wall with a stone pediment and base, which holds a polished black granite plaque dedicated to the No 75 (New Zealand) Squadron.
