Description
The garden wall with gate and gate piers, located to the southwest of Ken Hill House, was built around 1879-1880 by J.J. Stevenson. It features coursed dressed and squared carstone walls, along with cut-stone piers and a forecourt wall. The garden wall is rectangular in shape, with a curved section on the west side. At the eastern entrance, there are two stone gate piers inspired by Palladian architecture. These piers have vermiculated plinths and rusticated sections above, with arches that are filled with wrought iron and feature channelled rustication and voussoir heads. The coping includes a cornice, a pulvinated frieze, and a keystone that runs through both piers, topped with an entablature. The garden gate is situated between the piers and is flanked by two fixed side panels, with a gate and an overthrow above. To the south, the entrance front is completed by a dwarf stone wall that is punctuated with dwarf piers featuring roundels, forming a "U" shape.
