Description
This building comprises two shops with residential flats above, constructed in 1816. The front facade is of gault brick, contrasting with red brick returns. The roof is slate-covered. The building stands three storeys high, arranged in seven bays along a curved frontage that extends half into Saturday Market Place. A panelled door, sheltered by a hood supported on scrolled consoles, provides access to the flats, which are located above the shop. The ground floor features early 20th-century plate-glass showroom windows, set beneath a contemporary fascia board. The upper floors contain sash windows with glazing bars, each topped with a gauged skewback arch. The rear slope of the roof is punctuated by three chimney stacks.
