Description

The tower, located 30 meters north of Welle Manor Hall in Upwell, dates back to around 1480. It is constructed of brick and is octagonal in shape. The tower originally flanked the east side of the former entrance to the courtyard, but the surrounding walls have since been removed, leaving the tower free-standing. On the south side, there is a flat abutment that features a segmental-headed doorway, which is topped with a pointed hood mould on labels. Above this doorway, there is a tall segmental-headed window that has been blocked with timber, with openings for dove holes. Inside, the tower retains a brick winder staircase.
