Description

Nos. 53 and 53A on High Street are two shops, likely originally constructed as a single unit, with flats above. They date from the early 19th century and are built of gault brick. The building has three storeys and is divided into three bays. There are two 20th-century shopfronts at ground level. The central bay of the upper floors features blind windows, while the other bays have sash windows with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. A timber eaves cornice runs along the top, and there are internal gable-end stacks.
