Description
No. 5 Norfolk Street is a building located in King's Lynn, originally known as Nos. 4 and 6 Norfolk Street. It was formerly an inn surrounding a courtyard at the rear. The structure dates from the 18th century but has been mostly altered in the early 19th century. It serves as a shop with accommodation above and is constructed from rendered and colourwashed brick. The front features plaintiles, while the rear has pantiles.
The building stands three storeys tall with a dormer attic and is arranged in three bays. To the left, there is a wide passage under an arched opening that leads to the courtyard. The right side has a 20th-century shopfront. The upper floors have sash windows with glazing bars. Between the upper storeys, there is a recessed horizontal panel with scrolled inset consoles at either end, which was the former name banner for the inn. A cornice and parapet conceal a gabled roof that has two dormers. The courtyard elevation is marked by 20th-century windows and doors, and above a narrow platband at the first floor, there are two early 19th-century sashes with glazing bars.
