Description
24 and 24A King Street is a house that dates back to the early 17th century, with its facade remodeled around 1830. It currently serves as a shop and office. The building is constructed from stuccoed and colourwashed red brick, topped with machine-tiled roofs. It stands three storeys high and features a four-window range. The late 20th-century shop fronts are accompanied by a late 20th-century aluminium door on the left side.
On the first floor, there are four 6/6 unhorned recessed sash windows set within architraves that have foliated consoles supporting their hoods. A moulded cornice runs below a panelled parapet, which has two 3/3 unhorned sashes that project as dormers to create an attic storey. The roof is gabled, and there is an internal gable-end stack on the south side.
To the east, a cross-wing extends along Row 86 and is two storeys tall, featuring various 19th and 20th-century casements and sashes. Inside, the building has undergone significant internal remodelling. The front roof includes five bays of early 17th-century upper crucks, staggered butt purlins, and collars, with the upper cruck roof also extending to the rear wing.
