Description
The Thatched Cottage is a house dating from around 1600, constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick with a thatched roof. It has one storey and a dormer attic, with a north-facing facade that lacks a doorway. The front features three 2-light timber cross casements; the left one is a 20th-century copy, while the others are original to around 1600, showcasing ovolo moulded mullions and jambs with leaded glass. The gabled roof includes two hipped dormers, which also have 20th-century ovolo moulded timber cross casements. There are internal gable end stacks, and the rear has an early 20th-century slated extension along with 19th-century casements of two and three lights, plus two hipped dormers in the roof. At the west end, part of a timber arched brace remains. Inside, both principal ground floor rooms feature plain bridging beams and joists, while the fireplace in the west room has been rebuilt. The roof structure has been altered, with tie beams sawn off to increase space, and the roof above is boarded.
