Description
Old Beams is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates from the 17th century and is constructed of timber frame and brick, topped with a thatched roof. The building has one and a half storeys, with single-storey additions made later to the west and south. It features a two-cell lobby entry plan. The central entrance door, added in the 20th century, is flanked by a three-light window with a transom and wrought iron casements on the right, and a four-light casement window from the 19th century on the left. Inside, there are open brick fireplaces with timber bressumers, and the first floor has bridging beams that are chamfered with ogee stops. A winding stair is located against the stack. The timber frame is exposed on the inside at the first floor level, and the roof features coupled rafters from the 17th century. This building was formerly known as the White Horse public house.
