Description
Broad House is a house from the early 18th century and later. It is built of red brick with a pattern of dark headers, and the roofs are slated and pantiled. The building has an L-shaped layout, with two storeys and attics. The main facade faces south and features a 2-3-2 bay arrangement, with the central bays slightly advanced under a pediment. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and have flat gauged brick arches above them. The central doorway is flanked by brick pilasters that support a segmental moulded brick pediment. The house has rusticated brick quoins, a moulded brick string course at the first floor level, and a moulded wooden eaves cornice. There are two dormers with segmental heads and a Diocletian window in the pediment. The gables are parapeted and coped, with chimney stacks located off-centre and at the east gable. The northern wing has later parapeted extensions with sashes and glazing bars, and there is a parapeted porch with an open-pedimented doorcase and a semi-circular fanlight. Additionally, there is a 20th-century hipped wing extending to the east.
