Description
No. 3 Church Lane is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of red brick with a decorative diaper pattern and was formerly limewashed. The building features a steeply-pitched pantile roof and is arranged in a T-plan over two storeys and an attic. The front has three windows, which are three-light 19th-century casements with leaded glazing. There is a central doorway topped by a 20th-century hipped porch.
The house has a crow-stepped gable on the north side and a parapeted gable on the south side, both of which have internal chimney stacks with twin diagonally set shafts, moulded caps, and bases. On the first floor, there is a small blocked 'fire' window on the left-hand side and one plain corner pilaster. The building has two projecting wings to the east, each with crow-stepped gables. The windows in these wings are ovolo-moulded with mullions and transoms, also featuring leaded glazing. Moulded brick pediments adorn the openings, and there is one blocked pedimented opening in the northeast wing.
The main east wing has a chimney stack on the north wall with a diagonally set shaft, and there is a later one-storey wing on the south side. The interior has been largely modernised, but some ovolo-moulded beams remain.
