Description

Leisure Hour is a chalet built in the early 20th century, part of a distinctive group found along the waterways of the Broads. It features a timber frame with timber boarded walls and a thatched roof made of Norfolk reed.

The chalet has a rectangular plan, aligned roughly east to west, and is situated on the north bank of the River Bure. Designed in a cottage orné style, its exterior includes mainly timber-framed mullion and transom windows with square-paned transom lights. The thatched roof has a patterned ridge piece and deep overhanging eaves. The principal elevation faces south across the river and presents a five-bay symmetrical composition, with the three central bays recessed behind a veranda. This veranda has a timber balustrade with stop-chamfered spindles, a moulded handrail, and a short flight of steps with newel posts topped with square acorn caps. The veranda is supported by timber posts with ogee braces, and the braces on the two narrower end bays form ogee-arched heads. At the rear center of the veranda, there are a pair of uPVC French doors flanked by three-light mullion and transom windows. Each end bay features a four-light mullion and transom, and the returns have identical windows. The rear elevation includes a five-light mullion and transom window at the center, a four-light mullion and transom to the left, and a two-light mullion and transom to the right.

Inside, the chalet has panelled timber boarded walls, which are believed to be original.
