Description

This barn and byre, located at The Grove, dates to 1763, with some rebuilding occurring in the 19th century. Constructed of red brick with a pantile roof, the building comprises a three-bay barn with a gabled extension to the south, and a truncated barn linked at right angles to the north. The barn has full-height doors in the centre of its east elevation, with an opening to the west. The south gable features brick kneelers, a plat band, tie irons, and a date block inscribed "J.M. 1763." A line of the previous roof is visible in the south gable. Inserted windows are present in the north gable, and the shortened north range has a continuous outshut on its north side, with inserted doors in the west gable wall. A weatherboarded gable sits above the doors. The building has parapet gables with brick kneelers and owl holes. Internally, blocked vent slots are visible, and the roof comprises a 19th-century ten-bay butt purlin structure with timber knees to the tie beams. The building is included on the list for its group value.
