Description

Grove Farm House is a farmhouse built around 1763, with later additions. It is constructed of brick, colourwashed brick, and pantiles, featuring an 'L' shaped plan with two storeys and a single storey extension to the west. The north facade has a 19th-century front with eight bays. It includes a central raised and fielded six-panel door set within a 'Gibbsian' doorcase that has a rusticated architrave, key blocks, and a pediment. The facade alternates between blind windows and windows on the first floor, with mid-19th-century sashes that have glazing bars and segmental brick arches. The gables have parapets with end stacks and brick tumbling to the west, along with a central axial stack. There is a plat band at the first floor level at the rear, and the south wing has two windows. The east facade, also from the 19th century, features a raised and fielded six-panel door with a fanlight that has radial glazing bars. Its doorcase includes panelled reveals, reeded pilasters, and an entablature with patera blocks and a projecting cornice. The first floor has sash windows with margin lights, glazing bars, and flat brick arches. The interior is primarily from the 19th century but includes 18th-century two-panel doors and raised and fielded six-panel doors. There is a Georgian corner cupboard with a six-panel door and an apsidal interior with curved shelves, as well as a 19th-century staircase with square balusters and a swept handrail.
