Description
The Village Hall, originally built as an Improvement Institute in 1857, is constructed of red brick and black pantiles. It has a single-storey, 'L'-shaped plan. The facade features three windows and a central porch. The corners of the building are rusticated, and the eaves are corbelled. The windows are three-light casements with flat gauged brick arches and projecting key blocks. The porch has rusticated brick quoins and a semi-circular gauged brick arch over the entrance, which has a blocked oculus above. An inscribed stone panel is located above the entrance, which reads "Mutual Improvement Institution". To the left of the door, there are tablets inscribed with "J. H. Warnes, May 10th 1859" and "This Institute was established by George Shreeve, November 2nd 1857". The bricks on the porch are variously inscribed, including "Miss L. Warnes". There are 19th and 20th-century extensions at the rear, which are not of special interest. The building also features end gable stacks.
