Description
This is a farmhouse, originally dating back to around 1600, and later significantly altered. It has been divided into two separate dwellings and stands on Newport Road, South Walsham. The building is constructed of red brick, with a thatched roof. It is two storeys high, with attic space, and has an L-shaped layout.
The farmhouse likely comprises two distinct phases of construction. The right-hand (southern) range displays a symmetrical design centered around a prominent axial chimney stack. This section features three-light casement windows, although these have been replaced in the 20th century, and windows with segmental heads. A central entrance is positioned opposite the chimney stack. The chimney stack itself has a square base with four octagonal shafts, each topped with molded star-shaped ornaments and two simple brick pilasters. The brickwork on the left-hand side is older, though heavily patched and renewed in places, and one area retains an English bond with diaper patterning. This section also has three-light casement windows that are largely 20th-century replacements, and an entrance with a segmental head. The gables are parapeted, with an internal chimney stack on the north gable.
On the east side, there is a two-storey, gabled wing with a parapeted and tumbled gable and another internal stack. The main range's roof includes two thatched dormers. Various thatched and slated lean-to additions and a small two-storey extension are located at the north gable.
