Description
The Old Bakery is a house, now divided into two, that dates back to the 17th century but was significantly altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate and pantiled roof. The building has a 'T'-shaped plan and stands two storeys high with attics. The south facade consists of four bays and includes a doorcase on the west side, which has fluted pilasters and a projecting cornice. The windows are sash style, with glazing bars and segmental gauged brick arches. The eaves are supported by paired shaped timber brackets, and the roof is hipped with a central axial stack.
The north wing has various 20th-century windows and a modern porch on the east side. Inside the porch, there is a six-panel door with a flat gauged brick arch, and above it is a moulded brick string course from the early 18th century. The north wing also features a modern parapet gable and an axial stack. Traces of 17th-century construction can be found in the rear range, including stop-chamfered beams, attic timbers, and a bressumer for a large open fireplace, which bears traces of Gothic script.
