Description

The Church of St Mary is a parish church located in East Bilney, primarily built in the mid to late 19th century around a medieval core. It is constructed from flint with ashlar and some brick dressings, topped with plaintile roofs. The church features a western tower, an aisleless nave with a south porch, a south chapel, and a vestry to the north, along with a chancel that was erected in 1883 in memory of Henry Collison, the rector.

The lower two stages of the unbuttressed west tower are the only recognizable medieval elements, showcasing a three-light Perpendicular traceried window and three twin lancet windows that were formerly bell-openings. The late 19th-century bell stage is designed in the Perpendicular style. The nave has two single-light cusped windows on the south side and two two-light windows on the north side, both in the Decorated style. The chancel features two two-light windows in the Decorated style and two single-light cusped windows, along with an elaborate east window also in the Decorated style.

Inside, there is a chamfered tower arch without responds and a Victorian chancel arch in the Decorated style. The chancel stalls and pulpit incorporate re-used 17th-century carved friezes. The church contains a significant amount of Victorian stained glass and has a plain octagonal font.
