Description
This is a barn located 150 yards southeast of Old Hall Farmhouse, dating from the late 16th century. It has a timber frame with wattle and daub infill set on a plinth made of brick and flint. The exterior is weatherboarded, and it features a gabled roof covered in corrugated iron. The barn is a single storey and has full-height timber double doors that were added in 1982. A gabled wagon entrance was added to the rear in the late 17th century. The south gable wall includes drip shelves at the eaves line and at the middle rail. Inside, the walls consist of chamfered principal studs and plain secondary studs. The middle rail is tenoned and pegged, and there are double arched braces supporting the chamfered tie beams. The wall plate is present, and the chamfered principals have two tiers of tenoned butt purlins. The secondary rafters are tenoned into the lower purlins, passing the upper ones, and there is arched wind bracing along with collars.
