Description
40, 42, and 44 London Street are three houses built in 1840. They are constructed of red brick with a gault-brick facade and feature a slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys and have an irregular arrangement of five windows. The wide centre window bay is recessed.
There are three four-panelled doors with overlights, although the door to No. 42 is from the 20th century and does not have an overlight. Each door is framed by timber doorcases with reeded pilasters, panelled reveals, and hoods. The windows consist of 6/6 unhorned sashes on the ground and first floors, which are topped with gauged skewback arches, while the second floor has 3/3 unhorned sashes. The right-hand sash on the ground floor features 1/1 glazing bars, and the outer windows of the floors above are blind and painted to look like windows. The gabled roof has two ridge stacks, with the northern stack having been rebuilt. The interior has not been inspected.
