Description
Nos 53, 53A, and 55 on High Street are 17th-century buildings constructed of brick and timber frame, with plastered and colourwashed surfaces. They feature a steep pantile roof and are two storeys tall with attics. The buildings are arranged in a T-plan, with a long range extending to the east. The west elevation facing the street has four equally spaced first-floor sash windows with glazing bars and architraves. No 55 has 19th-century shop fronts and there is a segmental-headed dormer with a sash window above. Attic casements are present in the north and south gables. A central cruciform chimney stack is rendered, while a brick stack is located in the north gable. The east elevation includes a small hipped outshot aligned with the central stack, featuring a blocked window opening, and a curved plastered staircase turret topped with a lead flat roof and an ogee-headed window with leaded glazing. The east elevation is pebble-dashed and has modern metal casements. Additionally, there is a modern lean-to extension to the south.
