Description

The Grange is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It has a timber frame with a mix of wattle and daub or later clay lump infill, and a pantiled roof. The front was re-faced in yellow brick in the 1920s, and there is a late 20th-century gabled porch. The two-storey facade features all late 20th-century windows and details. The rear elevation is one storey with two two-storey gabled cross wings, the central one originally serving as a privy tower. Gaps between the wings were filled in the 18th century under catslide roofs, and all windows and details on this side are also late 20th-century. One four-light diamond mullion window remains on the first floor.

Inside, there are tongue-stopped bridging beams and roll-moulded re-used joists in the lounge. The study features a re-used bridging beam with five rolls. The tie beams in the roof have largely been relocated, and there are staggered butt purlins, although the north wing includes butt purlins, one of which is a reused moulded purlin.
