Description

Mill Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with later alterations. Originally a timber-framed building, it was later encased in brick, now topped with a pantile roof and featuring brick ridge and left-end projecting stacks. The original design incorporated a through-passage, with two ranges—the one to the right being slightly lower and representing the parlour end of the original house. The house is two storeys high, with a four-window front. Most windows are 20th century replacements, alongside some 2-light casements over 3-light and 2-light casements. The main entrance is centrally located on the left-hand range, in the position of the original through-passage, while two further doors are present on the other range. Two rear lean-tos have catslide roofs. The interior timber frame is largely obscured, but visible features include wall plates of heavy scantling and most of the jowled posts. Some tie beams remain, although the remainder of the roof is probably from the 18th century.
