Description

Cobbler's Cottage is a cottage, originally two cottages, dating from around 1600, with flooring added around 1730 and an extension to the north in the mid-18th century. It features a timber frame with rendered wattle and daub cladding and a thatched roof. The building is one storey high with a dormer attic. The east front has two 18th-century plank doors, each accompanied by a 3-light 18th-century casement window to its right. The gabled roof includes two gabled dormers, one fitted with a 2-light casement from the 18th century and the other from the 19th century. There is a ridge stack positioned to the right of the center and an external gable-end stack on the north side. The south gable has late 20th-century weatherboarding. The rear (west) front features one 19th-century plank door and one 3-light casement window.

Inside, the timber frame consists of thin scantling with tension braces connecting the principal studs to the wall plate, and the principal studs have reversed top jowls. The roof structure is not visible. There is an inserted chamfered bridging beam in the south room and a chamfered spine beam in the north room. A tie beam in the south room has been cut at attic level for a former passageway, and there is a fireplace in the south room that includes a former bread oven.
