Description

14 White Hart Street is a mid-18th century building that has served various purposes, including a theatre and shop until 1833, before becoming two houses and a shop, and later converted to offices in the late 20th century. The structure is built of flint and clunch, with a painted gault brick facade added in the late 18th century, and features a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic, and has a three-bay facade with rusticated quoins.

To the left, there is a late 18th-century shop front that includes a 20th-century door and an original display window with four panes arranged in four tiers, where the upper central panes are hinged. Fluted pilaster strips rise to a modillion cornice and hood on either side. On the right, there are two sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars, which have been replaced, and the right-hand sash was formerly a door. The first floor has three similar sash windows. A parapet conceals a gabled roof that is hipped at the front, with a central two-light casement flanked by blind windows on either side. The rear of the building is constructed of flint, and there is a wall stack to the south, along with two additional stacks on the ridge and south roof slope.

Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail. The front room on the first floor features a high coved ceiling, which is associated with its former use as a theatre, and includes a plaster cornice decorated with fruit and swags.
