Description

The London Coal Duty Marker, located 50 metres west of Hatfield Road in Potters Bar, is a cast iron square pier that stands one and a half metres high. It was cast in 1861 by Henry Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks. The marker features chamfered corners and a pyramid top, and it is painted white. The necking of the pier displays the City of London crest, while the front face has the inscription '24 Vict'. This marker indicates the extent of coal duty, which extends 20 miles in circumference from the General Post Office.
