Description

Seldown is a house built in 1904, as indicated by the datestone in the porch. It was designed by Sir Bannister Fletcher and is constructed of roughcast brick with a grey-green slate hipped roof, showcasing the Arts and Crafts style. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring a three-bay front.

On the ground floor, there is a small four-light stone mullioned window in the center, with a recessed entrance to the left under a segmental skeleton arch. The flanking bays have semi-circular bows with eight-light glazing bar casements beneath a moulded timber cornice that extends over the central bay. The first floor features casements that break the eaves, with moulded timber cornices; the central window has six lights with four lights forming a triangular bracketed oriel, while the flanking windows have five lights each. Battered buttresses are present at both ends of the front wall. The sweeping hipped roof has overhanging eaves with boarded soffits and a four-light central dormer. There is a stack on the front pitch to the right of center and end stacks linked to the hips, with the larger stack on the left, all stepped up and featuring exposed brick caps.

At the rear, there is a three-light loggia window with a decorative timber frame, along with a later link to a garage block on the left. The interior has not been inspected.
