Description
New Place and the garden walls were built between 1879 and 1880 by Philip Webb for his brother. The building is constructed of red brick and features large plain tile roofs arranged in a T-plan. It has tall chimney stacks with dentil cornices and parapet gable ends. The structure is two storeys high with attics, and it includes leaded casement windows with metal frames.
On the southeast gable end, there are two narrow sash windows set in segmental-headed relieving arches, along with a ground floor square casement window bay that has glazing bars, a coved cornice, and a tiled roof. The southwest side of the projection features canted bay windows with a dentil cornice and a hipped roof dormer. The southwest end has a segmental arch recess that connects to the side garden wall. The front brick wall is topped with a stone parapet that has a circular motif. Two large ball finials are positioned on either side of the garden entrance on the southeast side.
