Description

The Hope and Anchor is a 17th-century timber-frame public house located on the south side of Station Road, North Mymms, near Welham Green. The building is roughcast and has a steep-pitched plain tile roof. It is one storey high with three gabled dormers, each containing a multi-paned glazing bar casement window. The dormer gables are supported by old, moulded wooden brackets. There are two 8/8-pane flush sash windows on the left-hand side. A distinctive external chimney stack is on the left gable end, incorporating vitrified red brick and two square shafts joined by a small arch. The central bay of the interior retains a chamfer stopped beam and a fireplace lintel. A single-storey 19th-century rear extension is present in the centre, with 20th-century additions on the right.
