Description

The London Coal Duty Boundary Marker, built in 1861 for the City of London, is a Grade II listed structure made of ashlar. It features a square plinth with a stepped tapered base and a cornice, topped by an obelisk that displays the City of London coat of arms in relief on the southeast face. The marker stands approximately 4 meters tall and was part of a system of boundary markers that defined the area where incoming coal was taxed. Originally located on the opposite side of the River Colne, it was repaired and relocated by Watford Borough Council in 1984.
