Description
Nos 14 and 16 The Parade is a timber-framed house dating from around 1500, originally consisting of three bays and extended by one bay over a carriage entrance in the late 16th century. The exterior has been altered, featuring two storeys with a stucco finish and a plain tile roof. The first floor has three projecting flat-topped, three-sided windows. The ground floor has modern shop fronts and a through carriageway to the left. At the rear, there is an 18th-century brick range that is two storeys high, with a hipped plain tile roof and windows with segment arched surrounds. Inside, there is a presumed two-bay upper hall with a chamfered tie-beam and arch braces, a Queen strut truss with a collar, and arch wind braces. The north end bay was originally two storeys, while the late 16th-century south end features a Queen strut collar-and-tie-beam truss. There is a brick chimney stack with a large lintel at the first floor, which has been demolished above roof level.
