Description

This is a National Westminster Bank building, dating from approximately 1830 to 1840. The building is stuccoed and arranged in an L-shape. The front range has three bays and two stories with a raised parapet. It has a slate roof. The front features heavily moulded detail, including angle piers, frieze, and cornice. The parapet has corner blocks and a panelled central section. The first-floor windows are set within projecting, flat-headed architrave surrounds, with sill brackets. The ground-floor windows have heavy neo-Grec surrounds. A former central entrance was framed by pilasters and an entablature. A side gable end and a further two-bay range are also stuccoed. Pilasters and an entablature extend around the side, culminating in a moulded pedimental feature containing a framed panel within the gable. A stuccoed chimney is positioned above this feature. The two-bay range mirrors the front with similar first-floor windows, separated by pilasters. The ground floor has paired windows in each bay, framed by architraves with flat hoods on brackets, keystones and panelled aprons. A paired door and window, similarly treated, are located in the gable end.
