Description

Goldingtons is a large house with origins dating back to the 16th century, although it was largely rebuilt in the mid-18th century. Around 1820 to 1840, the building was raised by a storey and given a stucco finish. It was later extended in the 19th century. The house is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a shallow hipped slate roof.

The front of the house is symmetrical with five bays and three storeys. The central entrance consists of an eight-panelled door set within a dentilled architrave. It is flanked by early 19th-century fret-patterned reveals and pilasters that support a Greek Doric portico with paired columns, an empty frieze, a band of guttae, and mutules. The flanking tall sash windows have single glazing bars. A plinth runs along the base, and there is a plat band at the first floor level, which features a central blind opening with flanking sashes. The second floor has smaller nine-pane sashes, and pilaster strips are located at the ends of the building. The eaves are bracketed and boxed, with a stack on the right end and a cross axial ridge stack to the left of centre.

The left return of the house has four bays, with ground floor French windows and a plat band at the first floor, similar to the front. The second bay from the front has lower windows leading to the stairs, and there is a stack at the rear. Additionally, there is a two-storey, five-bay service range from the 19th century at the rear, set back to the left, featuring ground floor French windows and first floor sashes. This service range is constructed of stock brick with red brick dressings and includes gauged brick flat arched heads to tripartite sashes, as well as a ground floor canted bay.

At the right end of the facade, there is a brick wall with a blocked pointed archway. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
