Description
Cakebread Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid 17th century, largely re-cased in the 18th century and extended in the 20th. The house is timber-framed and initially comprised two bays. It is now encased in red brick, with portions whitewashed, and includes a brick addition. The roof is tiled. The original front has a doorway on the left side and three two-light ground floor casement windows, all with cambered heads. A doorway has been blocked to the right of the centre. There is a straight joint indicating the original division. Two dormers with weatherboarded gabled fronts light the attic space. The right gable end displays exposed timber framing. A substantial 18th century external brick stack is present, with a weatherboarded oven to the rear. The rear of the house features 18th and 20th century brickwork, including ground floor French windows and two-light casements with cambered heads, and four dormers. A hipped roof extends over the 20th century addition, which projects forward with a gable end facing the front. Inside, the ground floor has a stop-chamfered binding beam and exposed timber framing. The roof structure features clasped purlins and curved windbraces.
