Description
May Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid 17th century. It features a timber frame with brick nogging, and the ground floor is partly colourwashed. The roof is tiled and the building consists of three bays, with two storeys and an attic. The central entrance has a plank door, and there are three-light casement windows on either side set in reveals. The structure displays exposed end posts, a middle rail, studs, and tension braces. On the first floor, there are two two-light timber glazing bar casements and two hipped dormers. A stack has been added to the right front, while the original external stack is located on the left end, which is buttressed and rises from a broad base, featuring a casement window towards the front. The return wall behind the stack projects further than the front. The right end shows exposed framing with two and three-light casements and a weatherboarded gable. The entrance is located in the original continuous outshut at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
