Description
The power house, located about 50 meters south of The Fisheries Cottage in Chorleywood, was built around 1880 and is now used for stabling. It is constructed of stock brick and features a pyramidal slate roof, with a square plan. The northeast entrance has a cambered head and a 16-pane iron glazing bar window. There is a blocked entrance on the northwest side and another window with a cambered head. The building has boxed eaves and a louvred cap on the roof. Inside, there is a main cast-iron wheel that is 10 feet in diameter and 2 feet wide, equipped with 36 paddle blades that drive a 3-cylinder pump over a well. There are weatherboarded lean-to outshuts, but these are of no special interest.
