Description

The London Coal Duty Marker, located on the county boundary about 140 metres south of the road in a playing field, was erected in 1861. It was cast by H. Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks. This cast-iron square pier stands one and a half metres high and is painted white, featuring chamfered corners and a pyramid top. The necking displays the City of London crest, and there is raised lettering on the front face of the shaft that reads '24 and 25 Vict. Cap 42'. This marker indicates the extent of coal duty to the boundaries of the Metropolitan Police District.
