Description
The gates and screen at the east entrance to Rothamsted Manor House date from the early 18th century, likely around 1721 when the avenue of elms was planted. They are made of wrought iron and feature low double gates in the center. On either side of the central gates are ornamental panels with scrolled overthrows, and beyond these are single gates, with the entire group ending in narrower panels. The central gates themselves have scrolled panelling. The railings include alternating spikes topped with wrought iron leaf finials, and the left railings curve around to connect with the boundary fence.
