Description
Donnington House, located at 40 St Peter's Street, is a mid-18th century building featuring three storeys and five windows. The structure is constructed of blue brick with red brick dressings, complemented by a stone cornice and a brick parapet. A stone band runs along the first floor, and there is a stone plinth at the base. The sash windows, which have glazing bars in broad, near-flush frames, are topped with gauged, segmental brick arches, except on the ground floor where the sashes have been replaced with leaded panes.
The entrance boasts a prostyle porch supported by paired Tuscan columns and an entablature that includes a triglyph frieze and mutule cornice. There are three steps leading up to the door, which features a moulded architrave and a patterned fanlight. The property is enclosed by cast iron railings with spearhead standards and pineapple finials.
Inside, there is a staircase with spiral-turned balusters and a cut string. The hall and some rooms retain their original panelling. Donnington House is part of a group with Nos 28 to 46 (even) and No 50.
