Description
Fairfold's Farm Cottages are a pair of farm cottages that were originally built as a farmhouse in the 15th to 16th century, with cross wings likely added in the 17th century. The northern side was refronted in the late 18th century and converted into two separate cottages. The structure features a timber frame, with the south elevation being plastered and some areas covered in weatherboarding. The roof is made of plain tiles and has gabled wings at each end that slightly project, both with steeply pitched roofs. There is a projecting wing to the right of the left gable. The cottages are two storeys high, with an attic in the left gable. They have four glazing bar casements, most of which are 20th-century replacements. The center right section was likely an open hall, and the ground floor has been built forward. A large square chimney stack made of 17th-century red brick is located on the ridge. The northern elevation features a red brick facade, which is painted on the right side, and includes four glazing bar casements, with the ground floor windows having segmental heads. There is a floor band and dentilled brick eaves, with original casements remaining on the left ground floor and the right three first-floor openings. To the north, there is an adjoining single-storey barn from the 18th century with four bays.
