Description
Herons Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with indications of an even earlier origin. It is timber framed and was cased in red brick in the 18th century. The building features early 19th century sash windows and has a 20th century northern wing. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the farmhouse has two storeys. The original house consists of a close-studded range of four bays, which includes four windows; three of these on the ground floor are triple-hung sashes with segmental heads, while there is a blank panel on the first floor at the southern end. A small ridge stack is located at the right center of the building. Inside, the southern side showcases good exposed ceiling beams with wide flat joists. The rear elevation is partly weatherboarded, and there is a former stair turret at the southern end. The northern wing ends at the western side with a single storey block from the 16th century, which is timber framed with red brick infill and likely served as a former kitchen or bakehouse.
