Description
The main barn at Harpendenbury Farm is a large monastic barn dating from the 15th or early 16th century. It features an aisled construction with a crown post roof and is weatherboarded with a plain tile roof. The ends of the barn are half hipped with gablets, and there are two recessed porches on the east side. A 20th-century single-storey extension is located on the south side. The barn consists of seven bays, with square crown posts that have curved longitudinal braces supporting the collar purlin. The tie beams are complemented by slightly curved braces to the shouldered principals. The aisles include shouldered wall posts with passing braces to the principals, while the end walls are designed with mid-height rails and tension braces above.
