Description

Clive Cottage is a building that likely originated as two cottages, now combined into one. It dates from the late 18th century and has been altered and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is timber framed and rendered, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It stands one and a half storeys high and consists of two bays, with a one-bay addition from the 19th century on the right and a late 20th-century garage addition, which is not of special interest.

The main part of the building features a late 20th-century board door located in an open timber porch on the left, accompanied by two leaded wooden casement windows to the right, comprising one window with two lights and another with three lights. There are also two dormers with segmental heads and swept roofs. A central brick ridge stack with two flues is present.

Inside, the framing consists of small-scantling timbers, characterized by tall rectangular panels and straight raking braces. Some partition walls have been partially removed, separating larger front rooms from smaller rear rooms. The first floor retains old floorboards and two old board doors, one of which has strap hinges. The roof features a log-like ridge piece that supports uncoupled rafters. Originally, the building was part of a longer row and had a thatched roof. It does not appear on a map of the village from 1771.
