Description

This is a pair of 19th-century buildings on Hitchin Street. They are constructed of yellow brick with a Welsh slate roof featuring a bracketed cornice. The buildings are three storeys high, with a band indicating the second floor level. They have five sash windows on each front elevation. The ground and first-floor windows have segmental lintels, while the second-floor windows have flat lintels. Two ground-floor canted bay windows are present. Each building has a six-panelled front door, with two panels glazed. Number 12 has a segmental fanlight with decorative glazing bars, while Number 14 has a rectangular fanlight. Number 14 also features a panelled reveal and a Doric porch. The buildings are listed for their contribution to the group value of numbers 2 to 16 (even) on Hitchin Street.
