Description
The barn at East Hall Farm, located 40 meters to the east-north-east of the pond, dates back to the 16th century and is now the tallest part of a group of cattle sheds. It has been shortened in length in the later 20th century. The structure features a timber frame set on a red brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding with a steeply pitched roof, which is now made of corrugated asbestos.
The barn originally extended further to the east and includes jowled posts, a mid-height rail that is jointed in-line, and curved tension braces on the sides and western end that rise from the mid-height rail. Each roofslope has a single clasped-purlin supported by a collar truss with struts in the western gable. There are two open trusses featuring heavy convex-curved inclined queen-posts, long straight wind-braces, and heavy flat rafters. The barn is included for its group value within the complex.
