Description

Paddock Close comprises numbers 1 to 8, a group of cottages built between 1904 and 1905 by Geoffrey Lucas. They were designed in a vernacular style as ploughmen’s cottages for the Garden City Company and were awarded first prize in class III of the 1905 Cheap Cottages Exhibition. The cottages are arranged in two blocks, each with a symmetrical facade and paired, central gabled dormers. The roofs are tiled, and the chimney stacks are of red brick, featuring moulded caps and gabled offsets. The first floor and dormers are roughcast, while the ground floor is red brick. A tiled string course runs at first floor level, and the windows are casements with three and four lights, featuring glazing bars. The cottages have boarded doors.
