Description
This is an aisled barn located about 5 meters south of Smith End Farm House, dating from the late 17th century or 18th century, with a roof that was replaced in the 19th century. The barn features a timber frame set on a base of brick and flint, and it is covered with weatherboarding and a corrugated sheet roof that has a gambrel slope at the rear. The structure consists of four bays and includes a door leading to the yard. Inside, there are jowled posts with arched braces supporting the tie beams and arcade plates, which were renewed above the plates and tie beams in the 19th century. The roof has clasped purlins, and there are tension braces and studding in the walls. Attached to the left side of the barn is a two-bay, two-storey block from the 19th century that has been converted, featuring two doors to the yard, loft doors, and inserted windows.
